Applause Named a Boston Globe “Top Place to Work” for Third Straight Year

For the third year in a row, Applause has been named one of Massachusetts’ top places to work by the Boston Globe. The full list was published in Globe Magazine on Nov. 22.

Boston Globe’s Top Places to Work program recognizes the most admired workplaces in the state voted on by the people who know them best — their employees. The survey measures employee opinions about their company’s direction, execution, connection, management, work, pay and benefits, and engagement.

“This was a particularly challenging year to be a great place to work, and the companies that made our list went above and beyond to keep their employees safe, engaged and cared for,” said Katie Johnston, the Globe’s Top Places to Work editor. “From offering help with childcare to making the workplace more equitable to holding virtual talent shows, these employers showed that the best get better in crisis.”

The rankings in Top Places to Work are based on confidential survey information collected by an independent company specializing in employee engagement and retention, from more than 80,000 individuals at 285 Massachusetts organizations. The winners share a few key traits, including offering progressive benefits, giving their employees a voice and encouraging them to have some fun along the way.

In a stressful and anxious year around the world, Applause stood out from other companies by keeping team members engaged and connected while working remotely since early March. The team made use of technology to host virtual happy hours, daily ‘Applause Spirit’ prompts and even a company-wide toast to celebrate the anniversary of Applause’s founding.

Applause Nation is endlessly creative and passionate about improving the company. That’s why, earlier in the year, Applause held an internal idea contest – named Eureka!, after Archimedes’ declaration of discovery – where employees could submit innovative ways to improve the company and grow the business, with cash prizes awarded to the winners across three categories. This contest originated with an idea brought forward by an employee that we thought was great. We love how engaged and forward-thinking our employees are here at Applause, and always encourage them to offer new ideas.

All of these activities and events kept the team close and showcased the culture of collaboration and team spirit that Applause is built on.

The recognition from Boston Globe follows similar honors from Inc. Magazine and Boston Business Journal earlier in the year.

In May, Inc. Magazine named Applause one of the nation’s best places to work. More than 3,000 submissions were submitted as part of Inc. Magazine’s program, with fewer than 400 finalists making the cut.

A month after the Inc. Magazine list, the company culture at Applause was once again highlighted by Boston Business Journal in its annual list of the top workplaces in Massachusetts – marking back-to-back years Applause has been featured on the BBJ’s rankings.
